Vic: Neighbour with keen ear comes to rescue

An elderly Melbourne woman has been saved from a fire in her home when her neighbour
heard the woman's smoke alarm.

The 85-year-old woman was cooking in her house in Niddrie .. north-west of Melbourne
.. when she became distracted and her toaster and range hood caught fire just after eight
o'clock last night (AEST).

Her neighbour heard the smoke alarm and went to investigate.

The woman was taken to hospital suffering possible smoke inhalation.
