Fed: Three more fires break out in ACT
Firefighters worked quickly today to extinguish three small bushfires in the nation's
capital amid strong winds and soaring temperatures.
The latest blazes came after firefighters spent the Christmas week battling four major
fires burning in the ACT.
An ACT Fire Brigade spokesman says today's largest blaze was at Mount Painter in Canberra's
north, with small grass fires in the Australian National Botanic Gardens and Fadden Pines.
The spokesman says the fire brigade doesn't know what sparked the latest fires.
A total of 1,500 hectares of ACT land was burned in the worst of the bushfires last week.
ACT Bushfire Service manager TONY GRAHAM says weather conditions will be very similar tomorrow.
The total fire ban will remain in force until midnight tomorrow.
The maximum temperature in Canberra today was 31 degrees celsius and the weather bureau
has forecast a high of 26 degrees for tomorrow.
